Halal finance. Built for the Ummah.

Money managed the way your deen asks it to be.

Everyday budgeting, bills and savings, built around a comprehensive four-madhhab Zakat engine with auditable calculations instead of a one-size-fits-all formula.

Live now

A comprehensive four-madhhab Zakat engine, with every number explained.

BarakahFlow separates classical madhhab rulings from contemporary policy choices, applies the position you select, and records exactly what was included, excluded and deducted.

  • Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i and Hanbali ruling layers.
  • Cash, gold, silver, shares, pensions, business stock, receivables, rentals and digital assets.
  • Separate entries for each debt, mortgage, coin, stablecoin, token and NFT.
  • Clear asset totals, applied deductions, assessed wealth and final Zakat.

BarakahFlow states positions; it does not issue fatwa. For a binding ruling on your own situation, speak to a qualified scholar.

The threshold, drawn the way you draw it.

Zakat is due only once your wealth passes a threshold set by the value of gold or silver. Which metal you use changes the answer, because the two have drifted far apart.

Which metal sets the line

The default is the lower of the two, which in practice means silver. That is the Hanafi rule for mixed holdings and what most charity bodies recommend: a lower threshold means more people qualify to pay.

You can switch to silver only, or to gold only for a higher threshold. Either way it is shown in your own currency with a progress bar, so if nothing is owed you can see why.

A countdown that follows the moon

Days elapsed, days remaining, and the due date in both calendars: “12 Ramadan 1447”, not just a date in March.

It tracks the true lunar anniversary rather than a flat 354 days, which would drift by about a day a year. Paying your Zakat restarts the year from the day you paid.

Lunar or solar, your choice

Keep a lunar year and pay 2.5%. Anchor to a Gregorian date instead and the rate rises automatically to 2.577%, because a solar year is about eleven days longer.

The uplift keeps your lifetime obligation whole. Permitted by AAOIFI, the OIC Fiqh Academy and Kuwait’s Zakat House.

Weight conventions: the prophetic weights convert into modern grams in more than one way
Convention Gold Silver Used by
AAOIFI / majority (default) 85 g 595 g Most Islamic finance bodies worldwide
Classical Tola 87.48 g 612.36 g South Asian Hanafi convention; Pakistan’s official notifications
MUIS Singapore 86 g 595 g Singapore Fatwa Committee

The spread between these conventions is about 2.8%: immaterial on a small holding, very material on a large one.

The app suggests a preset based on your currency. You can also answer each question individually.

Live prices, gold purity and debt.

Three places an ordinary calculator quietly gets the number wrong.

Live gold & silver pricing

The threshold is a weight of metal, so it is only as good as the price behind it. BarakahFlow pulls live international spot prices in your own currency, refreshing every thirty seconds or so while the calculator is open.

You can override with a local price instead. If the feed goes down the app says so and timestamps the last known price, rather than passing off a stale number as current.

Gold purity, handled properly

Gold is tracked at 24, 22, 21 and 18 karat, in grams or ounces. Each karat is valued at its own price, so only the pure gold content counts. Stones, settings and alloy are excluded.

You can also record how much of each karat you actually wear. That is what lets the Hanafi and majority positions on worn jewellery give different answers from the same holdings.

How debts reduce what you owe

Most calculators let people deduct an entire mortgage balance and wipe out their Zakat. No school permits that.

For methods that recognize personal debt, short-term liabilities and long-term principal are kept separate. Mortgage relief can be none, one month, or twelve lunar months; the Shafi’i profile does not deduct personal debt from its mu’tamad base. Interest is never deductible.

Purifying interest

Record any interest that has landed in your account and the app removes it from your wealth base entirely. It then says plainly that this is not your wealth, cannot be purified by paying Zakat on it, and must be given away separately.

A record that survives the years

Saving a calculation stores more than a number. It keeps the method you used, the metal prices at that moment, the exchange rates and their date, and the Hijri dates at both ends of your year.

A figure from three years ago can be reproduced exactly, and defended.

Everything that counts

Cash, unspent salary, gold at four karats, silver by weight, shares and funds, business stock, retirement savings net of penalty and tax, rental income, money owed to you, and itemized debts. Add each coin, stablecoin, token and NFT separately with its purpose and value.

Built to be consistent with AAOIFI’s Sharia Standard on Zakah · the OIC International Islamic Fiqh Academy · the National Zakat Foundation (UK) · the Fiqh Council of North America · the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America · MUIS Singapore · PPZ-MAIWP and Lembaga Zakat Selangor · BAZNAS Indonesia · and the classical positions of the Hanafi, Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali schools.

The ordinary work of money, done properly.

Income, spending, bills, budgets and savings, with the obligations of Islamic finance built into the same place rather than bolted on afterwards.

A dashboard that answers first

Balance, net worth, accounts, month spending, budget, bills, savings and investments. Ordered broadest to most specific, so the answer you need most often is the one you never have to hunt for.

Quick Spend

Logging a small expense sits behind one button: type the amount, tap one of your six most-used categories, done. A “More details” link opens the full form when you need a date, a note or a different account.

Budgeting with giving built in

A monthly amount per category and a single ring for the month. Islamic Giving gets its own heading: Zakat Al-Mal, Zakat Al-Fitr, Sadaqah, Hajj / Umrah and Eid Expenses, never blurred into one line.

Bill tracker

Monthly, quarterly or annual, with a “last day of the month” option so a bill due on the 31st behaves correctly in February. Marking one paid records the expense, stamps the cycle and rolls the due date forward.

Savings goals

Hajj and Umrah are first-class goal types, not something filed under “travel”. Alongside Emergency, Education, Marriage, Home, Car and Other. Each gets its own progress ring and deadline countdown.

Net worth you can trust

Cash across every account, gold valued per karat, silver by weight, investments at market value and business stock, in one figure split by a segmented bar. Each account has its own switches for net worth and Zakat.

Investments

US-listed stocks and ETFs at current market prices, converted into your display currency. Prices refresh nightly and again the moment you open the screen. Your portfolio flows into net worth and, if you want, into Zakat.

Gold & silver as a real asset

Gold at 24, 22, 21 and 18 karat and silver by weight, in grams or troy ounces. The app knows the difference between fifty grams of 24k bullion and fifty grams of 18k jewellery, and carries the worn-versus-investment split through to the ruling you follow.

Twenty currencies, natively

Amounts are stored in the currency they actually moved in. Nothing is silently converted behind your back. Base currency anchors your figures; display currency is just how you’d like to read them today.

Friday Sadaqah

A reminder at 10am every Friday, taking you straight through to a pre-filled Sadaqah entry. No mainstream budgeting app will ever ship this, because charity isn’t a category their users organise their week around.

Private by design

Encrypted in transit and at rest, with strict per-user isolation. Never sold, never shared with advertisers, and no ad tracking of any kind. Your most sensitive numbers are never stored in plain view on your device.

Six reminders, all in your own time zone.

A finance app is only as good as the habit it builds. The reminders are deliberately few, and each one exists to prompt a specific action.

  • Friday Sadaqah10am, every Friday
Invites you to give a small Sadaqah on the most blessed day of the week, tapping straight through to a pre-filled entry.
  • Zakat anniversary9am, on the day
Tells you your Zakat year is complete and it’s time to review your assets. Follows the true lunar date.
  • Bill due9am, the day before
Names the bill falling due tomorrow.
  • Payday9am, on your pay day
Prompts you to log your income and allocate the month’s budget while the money is still there.
  • Daily log8pm, only if needed
A nudge on days you haven’t recorded anything, never on days you have.
  • Budget warningImmediately
Fires the moment a category crosses 80% or 100% of its budget, once per threshold per month.

Reminders work on Android through the installed app, and on iPhone once BarakahFlow has been added to the Home Screen.

Built for people whose money doesn’t live in one country.

Rates refresh daily and are cached on your device. The date they came from is shown, and staleness is flagged rather than hidden. For Zakat, conversion happens at the rate on your Zakat date, which is what lets a saved calculation be reproduced years later.

Commonly Asked Questions

Clear answers on how BarakahFlow handles your financial data and religious obligations.

How is BarakahFlow different from a normal budgeting app?

Zakat is the product, not a widget. A full rules engine sits at the centre of the app, with around fifteen genuinely contested questions each presented as an explicit choice that names the school or standards body it comes from. Islamic giving (Zakat Al-Mal, Zakat Al-Fitr, Sadaqah, Hajj and Umrah, Eid) has its own heading in the budget rather than being buried next to “miscellaneous”. Gold and multiple currencies are native to the ledger rather than bolted onto a single-currency one.

Does the Zakat calculator follow my school of thought?

The Hanafi, Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali positions are all encoded and attributed. Where the Hanafi school holds that worn gold jewellery is zakatable and the majority exempt it, both options are offered side by side with their reasoning. Where the Hanafi school judges the year only at its start and end and the majority require wealth to stay above the threshold throughout, both are there. The app never quietly picks one for you.

You can start from one of six regional presets and adjust anything afterwards, or answer each question individually.

How is nisab calculated?

Nisab is drawn from live international gold and silver spot prices, refreshed roughly every thirty seconds while the calculator is open and shown in your own currency. The default threshold is the lower of the two metals, in practice silver, and you can switch to gold only or silver only. Three weight conventions are available: AAOIFI at 85g gold and 595g silver, the classical Tola convention at 87.48g and 612.36g, and MUIS Singapore at 86g and 595g.

Prices are international spot rates, not local jeweller retail prices, and the app says so on screen.

How does the Hawl countdown work?

The countdown follows the true lunar anniversary resolved against the Islamic calendar, not a flat 354 days, and shows the due date in both the Gregorian and Hijri calendars. Paying your Zakat automatically restarts the year from the day of payment, as classical fiqh requires. If you prefer to anchor to a Gregorian year for accounting convenience, the rate is automatically raised to 2.577% so your lifetime obligation stays whole.

Can I deduct my mortgage from my Zakat?

Not in full. BarakahFlow itemizes short-term and long-term debt instead of subtracting an entire mortgage balance. For methods that recognize personal debt, you record the outstanding principal and principal due within the year, then apply the configured relief: none, one month, or twelve lunar months. The Shafi’i profile does not deduct personal debt from its mu’tamad base, and interest is never deductible.

Is my financial data secure and private?

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and Row Level Security enforces strict per-user isolation so no user of BarakahFlow can ever see another user’s data. It is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used for advertising or profiling of any kind. The most sensitive figures, including your income, metal weights, and Zakat inputs, are deliberately stripped out of the local cache on your device.

As the operator of the service, BarakahFlow’s infrastructure technically permits administrative access to stored data for maintenance, debugging and legal compliance. We do not look at individual users’ data except where it is necessary to fix a technical problem you have reported, or where the law requires it. This is standard across effectively every cloud-based financial app, including major banks. We state it plainly rather than hiding behind a claim that nobody can see your data. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Does BarakahFlow give religious rulings?

No. BarakahFlow states positions and tells you who holds them; it does not issue fatwa. For a binding ruling on your own situation the app tells you to speak to a qualified scholar. That restraint is exactly what makes the tool trustworthy to people who take the question seriously.

Do you track me? What analytics are running?

There is no advertising tracking, no ad networks, no third-party marketing pixels and no selling of data. What does run is Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights, and it is worth saying exactly what that is rather than hiding it behind the word “private”.

It measures technical performance: how quickly a page loads and renders on your device, which screens are slow, whether something errored, and rough device and browser class so we can tell a slow phone from a slow server. It is how we find out that, say, the Zakat screen is sluggish on older Androids before you have to tell us.

It uses no cookies and no fingerprinting, builds no profile of you, and is never joined to your account. It never sees a balance, a transaction, a metal weight or a Zakat figure. Those live behind your login and are not part of what it measures.

Separately, the app keeps a handful of anonymous counters, such as how many people finished setup. No personal information is attached to those either.

What does it cost, and where does it run?

It’s free, with no subscription and no ads. It runs in any browser, as an installed Android app, and on iPhone once added to the Home Screen from Safari.
